As temperatures begin to rise in the summer months, many people are starting to think about outdoor excursions and road trips in order to enjoy the weather and gain some relaxation.  As individuals prepare for these types of events, they also tend to be focused on the supplies that are needed to increase human comfort and safety.

Along with plenty of water for hydration in the heat, people also make sure that they have protective supplies like sun block and light clothing to shield them from the elements.  However, many people forget that their vehicles are also being impacted by the heat and the sunlight, and this can lead to long term problems with both the exterior and the function of the car.

Keeping Your Automobile Safe

One of the biggest things that people can forget is that their car is constantly subjected to the changes in the environment, and this can take a toll on:

•    The paint job
•    Car windows
•    Seats, consoles, and upholstery
•    Plastics, especially headlight covers
•    The battery
•    Radiator and engine function

The two main factors that really influence the vehicle are the heat and the UV rays from the sun.  For this reason, taking precautions to reduce the impacts can include avoiding as much of this exposure as possible:

•    Park in the shade whenever possible
•    Keep windows slightly cracked to vent the heat
•    Keep vehicle in covered car port or garage when not in use
•    Utilize reflective or UV minimizing windshield screens
•    Wash and wax the exterior of the vehicle every six weeks
•    Check fluids and battery function before any excursion

While it is impossible to avoid the full brunt of summer when protecting the exterior of your car, you can still take steps to ensure that your vehicle and its occupants will stay safe.  It is also necessary to remember that the seasonal heat becomes magnified in a sitting vehicle, and children or pets should never be left in a parked car for any reason.
