Winter Weather Means More Precautions

The nice thing about summer driving is that, barring a bad rain storm, you can just get in your car and go. If you use a GPS system, your estimated time of arrival is going to be pretty accurate, and, as long as you’re a reasonably good driver, there’s no real danger. Things change a lot in winter, because the environment undergoes a dramatic, even hostile transformation. But there are a few things you can do to ensure a safe trip.

Follow Traffic & Weather Reports

One of the biggest headaches of winter driving is when you’re trapped in slow traffic because of a winter related accident. This is why you should always check weather reports for the next day, and even just a few minutes before you leave. Also follow traffic reports, so if an accident does occur, you have early warning to divert to another route before you get slowed down.

Don’t Use Cruise Control

When you’re on a long, lazy drive, cruise control makes sense. When you’re driving in winter, it’s not a good idea to relax and leave the speed of the car up to cruise control. It’s better to remain alert and in control of your vehicle at all times. Leave cruise control for the summer drives.
